“Zapping” is subjecting the cell to a controlled discharge of high voltage energy, it
has the effect of reducing the cells internal resistance and so increasing its voltage
under load, and hence its performance. The procedure for this is more complex than
one might think, as the cell must be properly conditioned both before, and after the
process. Also the energy burst itself must be carefully controlled. A process which
altogether takes several days.
